Within the Framework of African Union Border programme, GIZ in cooperation with the National Boundary Commission of Nigeria (NBC) engaged Community engagement and Social Development initiative (CESDI) through a short term and long term measures to develop and roll out a project/approach for curbing the spread and impact of the COVID-19 in Katsina State border communities and to help Mitigate the negative impact of the pandemic through public awareness campaign and sensitization.
The life cycle of the project were devoted to implementing activities which included advocacy visits to relevant stakeholders, mapping out of affected communities, selection of beneficiaries, bio-metric registration of beneficiaries, trainings for volunteer health workers, community leaders and Local women, sensitization workshops for Border Officials and Religious leaders in Dankama, Magama-Jibia, Baban-Mutum, Zango and Kongolom, as well as market awareness in all five local government of project intervention.
The programme was also designed to provide support to local women in the communities through training on the production of facemask and liquid soap with the sole aim of translating this skills into income generating activities. The project was tailored to address the priority need of this communities by equipping them with the requisite skills to help combat the spread of Covid-19 in their communities and by extension Katsina State. Twenty five women, from the five project communities benefited from the training.
